DJ Lagway Named to Maxwell Award Watch List
Baylor University quarterback DJ Lagway has been named to the Maxwell Award Watch List, one of 81 candidates vying for the prestigious honor. The award, presented annually by the Maxwell Football Club since 1937, recognizes the most outstanding player in college football.
Lagway, a junior from Florida, joins 15 other players from the Big 12 Conference on the watch list, including nine quarterbacks from the league. In his collegiate career so far, Lagway has thrown for 4,179 yards and 28 touchdowns, with an additional 237 rushing yards and one touchdown.
Last year, Lagway earned a spot on several preseason award lists, including the Davey O'Brien Award, Walter Camp Award, Wuerffel Trophy, and Maxwell Award. He threw for 2,264 yards and 16 touchdowns in 2026, with multiple scoring passes in four games.
The semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced on November 10, followed by the three finalists on November 24. The winner will be announced at the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show on December 10 and formally presented at the Maxwell Football Club Awards on March 13, 2027.
