Dow Futures Soar on Tech Gains Ahead of Key Jobs Report
The Dow Jones futures pointed to a higher opening for US equities on Friday, October 2, as investors awaited the closely watched September jobs report. Technology stocks, including Nvidia, Broadcom, and AMD, gained in premarket trading.
Easing Treasury yields and lower oil prices provided some support to Wall Street. The Dow futures indicated a 0.51% gain to 53,061, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average had ended Thursday at 50,926.56, gaining just 20.51 points or about 0.04%. The S&P 500 rose 0.19%, and the Nasdaq Composite added about 0.04%.
The September nonfarm payrolls report from the US Labor Department is a key catalyst for Friday's trading session. Economists surveyed by Reuters expect the US economy to have added 90,000 jobs in September, down from 162,000 in August. The unemployment rate is forecast to remain at 4.1% for a third consecutive month.
Treasury yields moved lower on Friday after rising sharply during the previous session. The decline in yields helped improve sentiment toward stocks, particularly growth and technology shares. Reuters reported that markets had reduced expectations of an October Federal Reserve rate hike, with the probability of rates remaining unchanged rising substantially.
