Duffy's Road Trip Reality Show Slammed as Heavily Sponsored
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy's reality show 'Great American Road Trip' has been released after months of delays, and it appears to be a heavily sponsored program. The six-episode series was funded by a nonprofit called The Great American Road Trip Inc., with corporate sponsors including Boeing and Toyota each giving at least $1 million.
The show features Duffy's family on a supposed seven-month road trip, but critics argue that the production is more like an advertisement for the sponsors. In one episode, Duffy can be seen driving his family in a Toyota vehicle, which he enthusiastically praises as innovative and important for American development.
Duffy has maintained that the show was not funded by taxpayers and that all appearances of products or businesses do not constitute an endorsement by the Department of Transportation. However, critics have accused him of 'gift laundering' and called on the DOT's inspector general to investigate his participation in the show due to potential misconduct and violations of federal laws.
