Dutch Parliament Unites Against Illegal Gambling Sites

The Dutch parliament has united in its stance on enforcing laws against illegal online gambling sites. During a debate, members of the House of Representatives agreed that enforcement should be faster and tougher.

State Secretary KT van Bruggen said the government would work with Meta and Google to block illegal websites, citing their openness to the conversation. The cabinet is developing legislation for DNS blocking, which will be consulted in early 2027.

The issue of illegal gambling advertising on social media platforms was also discussed. Van Bruggen stated that the government would receive regular reports from these companies on the prevalence of such ads.

Some politicians suggested increasing the legal age limit for gambling from 18 to 21, but van Bruggen argued that more time is needed to assess whether this would push young people towards unlicensed sites.
