Egypt Connects Cyprus' Aphrodite Gas Field to Regional Pipeline
The Petroleum Ministry in Egypt is moving forward with plans to connect the Aphrodite gas field in Cyprus to Egypt through a 280-kilometre subsea pipeline. The project aims to strengthen coordination among all parties involved and finalize technical, financial, and commercial frameworks.
The agreement between Egypt and Chevron to accelerate development and production of gas from the Aphrodite field was signed in March 2026. Under this agreement, the gas will be transported to Egypt's network in Port Said for processing and re-export, helping meet the country's rising demand and solidify its position as a regional energy hub.
Aphrodite holds estimated reserves of 3.7 trillion cubic feet and has an estimated peak production capacity of about 800 million cubic feet per day. Chevron and Shell each hold a 35 percent stake in the field, with Egypt signing a 15-year agreement to purchase its entire output.
