Emmys Eye Move to Amazon Prime Video

The Emmy Awards ceremony may be moving to Amazon Prime Video, according to sources familiar with the discussions. The TV Academy is in talks to end the tradition of rotating the celebration on the four major broadcast networks - ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox. If the move happens, it would follow the Oscars, which are shifting to YouTube in 2029.

The Emmy Awards have seen a decline in viewership, with recent ceremonies averaging around 8 million viewers. The broadcast network executives are unhappy about producing and carrying the telecast, which they see as a commercial for streaming competitors like Netflix, HBO Max, and Apple TV. They devote more resources to prestige programs that appeal to Emmy voters.

A TV Academy representative confirmed the discussions but declined to comment further. The move would be a symbolic statement about traditional viewing on the networks losing cultural relevance. Amazon Prime Video has been pursuing live events, including sports packages and awards shows like the Academy of Country Music Awards.
