Ethiopian Airlines Commits to Major Boeing Freight Order

Ethiopian Airlines has signed an agreement to purchase ten Boeing freighters, including eight 777-8Fs and two current-generation 777Fs. The airline also secured rights to buy eight more 777-8Fs, which would increase the total number of aircraft under this arrangement to 18.

The catalog value of the ten aircraft is estimated to be around $5 billion, although the negotiated price remains confidential. According to CEO Mesfin Tasew, the new aircraft are scheduled for delivery between 2027 and 2035, with the 777Fs arriving in 2027 and 2028, and the 777-8Fs from 2033 through 2035.

Boeing's newer freighter is designed to carry more cargo volume than its predecessor, with 31 main-deck pallet positions and 17% more volume. The agreement follows a memorandum of understanding signed in 2022 for five 777-8Fs.
