Ethiopian Airlines Doubles Down on Boeing 777 Freighters with Historic Order
Ethiopian Airlines has signed an order for eight Boeing 777-8 Freighters and two 777 Freighters, marking a significant expansion of its cargo capabilities.
The agreement will pair the proven performance of the 777 Freighter with the next-generation capabilities of the 777X family, making Ethiopian Airlines the launch carrier of the type in Africa.
The 777-8 Freighter is expected to be the world's largest and most capable twin-engine freighter, offering a maximum structural payload of 118 tonnes and a range of 5,000 nmi (9,260 km) at a 110-tonne payload.
Ethiopian Airlines' Group CEO Mesfin Tasew stated that the agreement marks 'another significant milestone in strengthening Ethiopian Airlines' cargo capabilities,' while Boeing's senior vice president Brad McMullen noted that the order highlights both the strength of their partnership and growing demand for air cargo worldwide.
