EU Orders Google to Share Anonymized Search Data with Rivals

The European Union has ordered Google to share anonymized search data with rival search engines under the Digital Markets Act. This decision, made on July 17, 2026, requires Google to provide equal access to features on its Android devices by January 2027.

Competitors of artificial intelligence (AI) services will be able to compete with Google's AI services such as Gemini, thanks to the new ruling. The EU Commission has clarified how Google must give third parties access to data and features needed to improve their services.

According to the ruling, Google will have to anonymize and provide the same data it uses for its services to others. This shared data will be made available to eligible third-party search providers by January 2027.
