Excel Paste Bug Continues to Plague Microsoft's September Updates

Microsoft's September security updates have been plagued by issues, including a critical bug in Excel that broke paste functionality across multiple versions of the application.

The problem began when Microsoft shipped an update to fix remote code execution and information disclosure vulnerabilities. However, this update inadvertently caused the issue with paste operations, leaving users unable to copy and paste content without any visual indication that something had gone wrong.

Although Microsoft has released a hotfix for Excel 2016, it comes with its own set of limitations. The fix does not extend to other versions of Excel, including 2019, 2021, and 2024, leaving users of those versions still searching for a solution.
