Excel Users Frustrated by Broken Copy and Paste After Security Update

Microsoft's recent Office security update, KB5002914, has been causing issues for some users. The September 2026 Patch Tuesday update has resulted in copy and paste operations not working as expected in Excel 2016.

A Reddit user reported the problem, saying 'It seems that security update kb5002914 might have bricked autofill and copy paste in Excel 2016.'

Other users confirmed similar issues on both Reddit and Microsoft's Q&A forums. One user said their entire team was affected after most employees installed the update.

The problem isn't limited to a single Office release or installation method, with reports indicating it affects MSI and Click-to-Run installations and Office versions ranging from 2016 through 2024.
