FAA Clears Boeing's Troubled Max 7 for Commercial Flight

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has certified Boeing's new 737 Max 7 jetliner for commercial service, marking a significant milestone in the company's efforts to overcome years of safety and production challenges.

The certification comes nearly a decade after Boeing first unveiled the plane, which is part of its 737 family of commercial jets. The FAA said it cleared the new plane after additional testing, design changes, and an extensive review of its design and safety systems.

Boeing's efforts to address technical issues and heightened regulatory scrutiny were sparked by two crashes involving the larger Max 8 in 2018 and 2019, which killed 346 people. The FAA overhauled how it certifies Boeing aircraft following these incidents and has stated that its oversight of the company will continue beyond the Max 7's approval.

The certification process required Boeing to make several safety changes, including updating flight-control software, improving cockpit alerts for pilots, and redesigning the engine anti-ice system to prevent overheating. The FAA will also maintain a presence at Boeing production facilities to monitor manufacturing and ensure compliance with its Safety Management System and overall safety culture.
