FAA Gives Boeing Green Light for Extra Emissions-Exempt Freighters
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has approved Boeing's request for an emissions waiver, allowing the company to sell an additional 35 of its 777F freighters beyond the 2028 regulations. The waiver permits sales until January 1, 2031, three years beyond the original deadline. This decision acknowledges ongoing challenges in balancing environmental regulations with aircraft innovation timelines.
Boeing had initially requested the approval in December 2025, citing significant consumer demand and delays in certifying its new generation of planes. The company's request was likely driven by concerns over meeting the stricter emissions standards set to take effect next year. Despite this setback, Boeing can continue selling its current model for an extended period.
