FAA Gives Boeing Three-Year Reprieve for 777F Sales
US regulators have granted Boeing a temporary exemption to continue selling its 777F airframe beyond the introduction of stricter emissions rules in 2028. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has authorized sales of an additional 35 777Fs, extending the sale period past the previous January 2028 deadline.
The decision is a reprieve for Boeing and its freighter programme, which would have been blocked by the new regulations. The planemaker had warned that a production gap would risk $15 billion in US exports.
Boeing applied for the exemption in December 2025, citing uncertainty surrounding the certification of its 777-8F replacement. The newer freighter is expected to enter service around 2029, although its certification schedule has faced delays.
