FAA Grants Boeing Exemption for Additional 777F Freighters
Boeing has been granted an FAA waiver to sell 35 more 777F freighters after the new emissions rules take effect in 2028. The Federal Aviation Administration approved a waiver of airplane emissions rules, allowing Boeing to continue selling the planes for another three years.
The 777F is the only large widebody freighter currently in production, and its replacement, the 777-8F, won't enter service until approximately 2029. Without this exemption, Boeing would have faced a gap in freighter production that could have cost more than $15 billion in US exports.
Boeing requested approval for the waiver in December 2025, citing strong customer demand and a delay in the next-generation plane's certification. The FAA said it was giving Boeing 'flexibility' to accommodate uncertainty in the certification timeline of the 777-8F.
