FAA Grants Boeing Waiver for Additional 777F Sales Past Emissions Deadline
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has granted Boeing a waiver to sell an additional 35 777F freighter aircraft after January 1, 2028. The decision was made in response to strong customer demand and delays in certifying Boeing's next-generation aircraft.
Boeing requested the approval in December 2025, highlighting that without it, the company would face a production gap resulting in over $15 billion in lost U.S. exports. Each 777F export contributes $440 million to the U.S. trade balance at list price.
The emissions rules, finalized in February 2024 under former President Joe Biden, restrict the sale of large aircraft operating in U.S. airspace after 2028. The regulations exempt planes already in service before 2028 but do not affect Boeing's replacement for the 777F, the 777-8F.
