FAA Orders Inspections on 95 Boeing 737 MAX Aircraft Over Flight Control Concerns
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has proposed new mandatory inspections for certain Boeing 737 MAX aircraft after discovering that bearings in the flight control system may have been installed incorrectly.
The issue affects approximately 95 U.S.-registered aircraft, including the Boeing 737 MAX 8, MAX 9, and 737-8200 models.
The problem involves bearings in the elevator buss assembly, which could lead to premature failure of the crank arms if not corrected. The FAA estimates that each inspection would require around 23 work hours, costing approximately $1,955 per aircraft.
The estimated total cost for inspections is around $185,725, while repairs could be considerably more expensive, ranging from $1,105 to $98,496 per aircraft.
