FCPS Introduces Google Gemini as AI Tool for Middle and High School Students

Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS) has introduced Google Gemini as an artificial intelligence tool for middle and high school students, but some board members have raised concerns about its use.

The move, which began this school year, allows teachers to grant permission for students to access Google Gemini on their school-supplied devices. However, all other AI platforms remain blocked on these devices.

Some board members believe that the school system should disable artificial intelligence on student devices until a policy on its use is approved by the board. They argue that this would provide a safer environment for students and prevent potential distractions from AI tools.
