Fever Duo Overpowers Shorthanded Tempo
The Toronto Tempo suffered its fifth consecutive loss and 17th in 18 games, falling to the Indiana Fever 103-85 at Coca-Cola Coliseum. Despite being shorthanded without top players Brittney Sykes and Marina Mabrey, the Tempo put up a good fight, briefly holding the lead in the third quarter.
Tempo head coach Sandy Brondello acknowledged that the team struggled to keep up with Fever guards Kelsey Mitchell and Caitlin Clark. Mitchell scored a game-high 33 points and set a single-season WNBA scoring record with three games remaining. Clark added 28 points and 14 assists for her 14th double-double of the season.
Brondello noted that the team was slow in rotations, particularly against Mitchell, who is an 'amazing player' with an 'unprecedented' level of play this season.
The Tempo will play its final home game on Sunday against the New York Liberty.
