Born on August 25, 1960, in Lorain, Ohio, to James T. and Martha (Ibosh) Becht, Paul spent most of his life pursuing his passions outdoors and working with his hands.

He was an avid boat enthusiast, often spending time trolling for walleye on Lake Erie with his wife Ruth E. (Wood), whom he shared 45 years of marriage with.

Paul's love for woodworking and fixing things earned him the nickname 'The Engine Whisperer' during his tenure as a Tool Tech at The Home Depot, where he was renowned for repairing small engines.
