Finnish Town Braces for Google's $15 Billion Data Centre Boom
Google's massive data centre expansion plans in Finland have sparked both excitement and controversy. The tech giant is investing $15 billion over two years, its single largest investment in Europe to date.
The project will bring a large-scale business activity to the rural municipality of Muhos, where 8,800 people live. However, concerns about energy consumption and environmental impact have been raised by local residents and conservation groups.
Muhos Mayor Kimmo Hinno said that Google's investment will 'completely change the situation' for the entire municipality and the Oulu region. Thousands of workers from different nationalities are expected during the construction period, who will need housing and other services.
