Florida AG Demands Google and Meta Halt Casino Ads to State Residents

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has sent letters to five major online platforms, including Google and Meta, demanding that they stop advertising casinos to state residents. The move comes after it was discovered that these companies were promoting 'sweepstakes' casinos on their social media platforms, which are prohibited in Florida.

According to the letters, these online platforms have been allowing advertisements for casinos that operate under a loophole in federal law, which allows them to offer games of chance with prizes that are not cash. However, this type of gaming is still considered illegal in Florida.

Uthmeier wrote to Google, stating, 'Promoting illegal gambling is a crime under Florida law.' The letters were sent on September 28, 2026.
