Fortescue's Record-Breaking Wind Turbines Tower Over Australia

The Nullagine wind project in Western Australia's Pilbara region is set to break records with its towering turbines, each measuring 292 feet long and twice as long as a Boeing 737. The project, led by Fortescue mining company, will feature 17 Envision units, producing a combined 133 megawatts of power.

The tower technology comes from Nabrawind, which has developed the Self-Erection System that allows the towers to lift themselves up in stages, eliminating the need for giant cranes. The system uses a three-column steel frame with X-bracing, which raises the entire assembly, tube, nacelle, and rotor included.

The first turbine is expected to go up soon, with tower components already at the site and foundations under construction. The project aims to provide wind power during nights and seasonal lulls while its Cloudbreak solar farm covers the days.
