Free Trade Training for DIY Enthusiasts
Home Depot has launched a free program called Path to Pro, designed to teach average folks trade skills and help them tackle DIY projects at home. The training is virtual and self-paced, covering topics like construction, electrical work, HVAC, painting, and more.
The program offers certification upon completion and access to the Path to Pro Network, which connects employers with job seekers. Home Depot says the coursework is condensed compared to a college course and can be completed at one's own pace.
Some users have noted that the program helps because it teaches basic knowledge that homeowners may not know they need to learn. The training also provides structured learning, unlike YouTube videos where users must know what to search for.
However, some critics argue that the free course certification may not be notable on a resume or impressive to employers who prefer trade school or apprenticeship experience.
