FSU Professor Leads AI Recruitment Study with Microsoft Fellowship
Pellumb Reshidi, an assistant economics professor at Florida State University's College of Social Sciences and Public Policy, has been named a Senior Fellow of Microsoft's AI Economy Institute (AIEI). As part of this fellowship, Reshidi is working with researchers from Carnegie Mellon University and Erasmus University Rotterdam to study the impact of artificial intelligence on hiring and recruitment.
Their project focuses on agentic hiring, which involves using AI systems to screen, interview, and evaluate job candidates. This research comes as many organizations are increasingly adopting AI tools in the workplace, raising questions about their effects on workers, employers, and labor markets.
Reshidi notes that while companies have rapidly adopted AI technology, there is a lack of evidence on its long-term consequences. 'Adoption has moved faster than the evidence,' he said. The team is conducting a natural field experiment with a major recruiting firm, tracking over 70,000 interviews to understand how human recruiters and AI systems interact.
Their findings will be collected in an edited volume scheduled for publication in January and submitted to an open-access academic journal. This research aims to provide valuable insights into the effects of AI on hiring processes and labor markets, shedding light on the complex interactions between humans and machines in the workforce.
