FTC Expands Amazon Prime Refund Payouts to Millions More Consumers
Amazon is expanding its consumer refund payouts under a $2.5 billion settlement with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). The expansion comes as part of an amended federal court order, which broadens the eligibility criteria for refunds to include millions more customers who used Prime benefits between 11 and 20 times over a one-year period.
The maximum individual payment amount is increasing sharply from $51 to up to $200 per eligible consumer. In addition, consumers who have already received refund checks under the original settlement terms may be eligible for an automatic supplemental payment of up to $149.
Average director Christopher Mufarrige stated that the revised order will ensure more consumers benefit from the FTC's historic settlement. 'The revised order will ensure more consumers who were harmed by Amazon's deceptive enrollment and cancellation practices benefit from the FTC's historic settlement.'
