Galanz Retro Fridges Recalled After Fatal Incident and Fires
A recall has been issued for over 120,000 retro-style refrigerators sold at Home Depot and Amazon due to reports of fires and a fatal incident. The Galanz-branded fridges were available in four colors nationwide for $330 to $520. Federal regulators announced the recall after receiving 34 reports of fires linked to the products.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission warned that the recalled refrigerators' internal electrical components can short circuit and ignite, posing a risk of serious injury or death from fire and burn hazards. The CPSC added that there was one reported fatality associated with the fridges, but did not specify where it occurred.
Consumers are advised to stop using the recalled product until they have contacted Galanz and a technician completes a free on-site repair. Those who have questions can contact the company at 888-462-0579 during standard business hours or by emailing customerservice@galanzamericas.com.
