Gaza's Rubble Revealed on Google Maps: 200,000 Buildings Damaged or Destroyed

Google Maps imagery has revealed extensive destruction across Gaza, nearly three years into Israel's war. The satellite views show entire neighborhoods reduced to rubble, with little left but faint outlines of main roads.

According to UNRWA, about 82 percent of structures in Gaza have been damaged, with around 200,000 buildings affected. UNOSAT estimates that more than 80% of Gaza's structures were damaged or destroyed since the war began.

The World Health Organization reported that at least 94% of hospitals were affected by the destruction. Francesca Albanese warned that 'Gaza's rubble contains human remains and physical evidence relevant to investigating alleged international crimes.'

UNRWA said about two-thirds of damaged structures have been destroyed, with debris removal expected to take several years.

The Israeli military has rejected accusations of war crimes, stating their operations targeted Hamas and its infrastructure. However, the Palestinian organization is accused of using hospitals, schools, and residential areas for military purposes.
