Gazipur Garment Workers Block Road Over Unpaid Wages

Hundreds of garment workers from Honeywell Garments Ltd in Gazipur took to the streets on September 21, blocking a regional road and disrupting traffic.

The protesters, numbering around 1,300, were demanding payment of their two months' unpaid wages, dating back to August and September.

According to police sources, the factory had initially scheduled to pay the August wages on September 10, but the payment was delayed, prompting workers to take drastic measures.

The protesters set fire to tyres, causing traffic congestion in both directions of the road until around 1 pm, when industrial police and Gazipur Metropolitan Police intervened and held discussions with the workers.

Factory authorities were unavailable for comment, but police officials assured that efforts are being made to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
