GE Aerospace Brushes Off Mid-Seal Issue as GE9X Prepares for 777X Entry
GE Aerospace is confident that a durability issue with the GE9X engine's mid-seal will not delay the entry into service of the Boeing 777X aircraft next year.
The US company disclosed in February a potential durability problem involving a seal in the GE9X and said it had identified the root cause in April, with no change to the program's schedule expected.
GE Aerospace Chief Financial Officer Rahul Ghai stated that testing showed the mid-seal was not as durable as expected, but a redesigned part has been shipped to Boeing since the third quarter, with FAA certification anticipated in the coming months.
