GE Aerospace Seals Deal on GE9X Engine Durability Issue
GE Aerospace has addressed concerns over the durability of its GE9X engine's mid-seal, which was identified as a potential issue in February. According to Rahul Ghai, Chief Financial Officer at GE Aerospace, testing showed that the original seal was not as durable as expected.
In April, GE said it had identified the root cause and was finalizing a fix with no change to the schedule of the Boeing 777X program. The company has since redesigned the part and begun shipping engines with the new seal to Boeing in the third quarter.
Ghai expressed 'a huge degree of confidence' in the redesigned seal after internal testing, and said it was incorporated into engines now being produced. He also stated that the existing seal can be used for certification work underway.
