GE Aerospace Sends Redesigned Engines to Boeing Amid Regulatory Concerns
GE Aerospace has begun shipping redesigned GE9X engines to Boeing, which are intended for use in the 777X aircraft. The redesign addresses a durability issue with the engine's mid-seal, but regulatory approval is still pending.
The company expects FAA certification within the next few months and has already begun incorporating the new seal into production engines. This should allow Boeing to continue its certification work without delay.
GE Aerospace Chief Financial Officer Rahul Ghai expressed confidence that the redesign would not impact the 777X's planned entry into service in 2027, but Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg warned that regulatory issues could extend the timeline.
