Georgia Historical Society Recognizes Home Depot's Lasting Impact on State Economy
The Georgia Historical Society has recognized The Home Depot for its significant contributions to the state's economic and social development. A new historical marker in Atlanta commemorates the company's growth and pioneering role in creating a one-stop shopping experience for home improvement projects.
The Home Depot was co-founded by Bernie Marcus and Arthur M. Blank in 1978, with their first two stores opening on June 22, 1979, in Atlanta. By 1981, the company had become public, and by 1989, it had celebrated the opening of its 100th store.
The Home Depot's expansion continued with the opening of its first store in Canada in 1994 and Mexico in 2001. The company revolutionized the home improvement industry by providing customers with a wide range of products and services to tackle various projects.
The dedication ceremony for the historical marker took place at The Home Depot Store Support Center in Atlanta, attended by representatives from the Georgia Historical Society and the company itself, including co-founder Arthur M. Blank.
