A new report from financial advisor SmartAsset shows that fewer than 2 million American households qualify as part of the nation's top 1% earners, with varying income thresholds across states.

In Georgia, which is home to business giants like Coca-Cola and Home Depot, there are roughly 46,200 individuals who make up the state's top 1%. According to SmartAsset, these high-earners must have an annual income of at least $714,243 to meet the designation.

The report ranked Georgia 23rd nationally in terms of what income is needed to be part of the top 1%. To put this figure into perspective, the state's average individual income is around $40,000. The threshold for the top 5% and top 10% earners in Georgia are significantly lower at $288,746 and $196,438 respectively.
