Ghana Partners with Boeing on Regional Aviation Maintenance Hub
Ghana is taking steps to establish a regional Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) hub in collaboration with Boeing. The proposed facility will provide aircraft maintenance services to airlines operating across West Africa and potentially the wider African market.
The partnership was discussed during President John Dramani Mahama's meeting with senior Boeing executives in New York on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
Boeing has expressed its readiness to support Ghana's national carrier project and other areas of aviation development. The company believes that, subject to necessary structures and implementation arrangements, Ghana's national airline could return to the skies within about 18 months.
President Mahama emphasized that the partnership should go beyond aircraft acquisition, focusing on investments that strengthen the wider aviation ecosystem. He said, 'Ghana does not want its relationship with Boeing to be defined simply by the purchase of aircraft. We want a strategic partnership that helps us build an aviation ecosystem, creating skilled jobs, transferring technology, strengthening our industrial base and positioning Ghana as an aviation and logistics hub for West Africa.'
