Goldman Taps Rainmaker to Secure UK M&A Top Spot
Goldman Sachs has hired dealmaker Simon Lyons to lead its UK investment banking team in a move that signals the bank's commitment to staying at the top of Britain's merger-and-acquisition league tables.
Lyons, who will join as a London-based partner later this year, will work alongside existing co-head Nimesh Khiroya. This development comes at a time when Goldman has already demonstrated its dominance in the UK M&A market, with $175 billion across 69 deals so far this year, according to data from LSEG.
The appointment of Lyons is significant because he brings a wealth of experience as a 'rainmaker', an executive who brings in client relationships. He has held senior M&A roles at UBS, PJT Partners, and Ardea Partners. This move by Goldman is part of a broader effort to protect its share of advisory work across EMEA.
