Google and Constellation Partner for 890 MW Nuclear Expansion in PJM
Google and Constellation Energy have secured a major deal to boost nuclear power capacity in the PJM Interconnection grid. On October 6, 2026, the two companies finalized a 20-year agreement to add 890 MW of new nuclear power. This will involve upgrading 11 existing nuclear units owned by Constellation across Illinois, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. The project is expected to cost over $4.3 billion and will enhance the efficiency of the existing plants.
The additional capacity will be delivered through targeted upgrades rather than constructing new reactors. The 890 MW of nuclear power is roughly equivalent to the output of a new large conventional reactor or several small modular reactors (SMRs). This deal is structured as a long-term power purchase arrangement, with Constellation managing the delivery of the incremental capacity.
The agreement supports Google's operations by providing reliable, carbon-free electricity. The PJM Interconnection grid, the largest in the United States, will benefit from the increased nuclear capacity. This move aligns with the growing demand for clean energy solutions in the data center industry.
