Google Brings AI Hub to Ohio State Campus

The Ohio State University has announced a new partnership with Google Cloud that will bring a dedicated Google space to campus, marking one of the largest deals of its kind and the first physical Google outpost on a college campus.

The partnership, which is part of the university's Innovation District, will provide Ohio State researchers with access to Google's AI models and direct line to its DeepMind lab. According to Dawn Larzelere, associate vice president of operations for the university's Enterprise for Research, Innovation and Knowledge, these tools will be used to transform research across various fields, including biomedical engineering, earth sciences, and the humanities.

The partnership is the latest addition to a series of AI-related announcements at Ohio State, which include the AI Fluency Initiative, the AI(X) Hub, the Arts and Humanities AI Institute, and Buckeye Bio Launch. University spokesperson Ben Johnson noted that the benefits for the university include a research ambassador program from Google Public Sector, a first-of-its-kind internship program offering partnerships with Ohio State students, and new tools to assist students from admission to graduation and beyond.

Larzelere mentioned plans for personalized AI assistants, career tools, and 'unique experimental learning opportunities' meant to follow students through graduation. Further details are expected at a launch event this fall.
