Google Cleared to Buy Spirit Airlines Data for AI Training
Spirit Airlines and Google have received approval from a privacy ombudsman for their proposed $10 million sale of business enterprise data. The ombudsman, Lucy L. Thomson, confirmed that both companies have taken sufficient measures to protect consumer privacy. Thomson, a founding principal of Livingston PLLC, filed her report on Monday with the US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.
Additional safeguards have been implemented to ensure that personal information of Spirit’s customers is either removed or deidentified in the data set Google intends to purchase. The tech giant plans to use the data to train its AI models. Thomson’s report provides reassurance that the transaction complies with privacy standards.
