Google Ditches ChromeOS for New 'Googlebook OS' by 2034

Google has announced plans to end support for its ChromeOS laptop operating system in mid-2034. The company will transition to the new 'Googlebook OS', which combines ChromeOS and Android technologies.

The current lineup of Chromebooks, including relatively new models, are expected to be eligible for direct migration to Googlebook OS. However, older devices may no longer receive security updates after 2034.

Google has emphasized that the transition will occur in phases, with core management features scheduled to become available starting in late 2027. The company also plans to assist with migration to Googlebook OS for devices with remaining support periods beyond 2034.

The new premium laptop, 'Googlebook', is positioned as a high-end product with an initial price range of $899. This pricing strategy may pose challenges for educational institutions and municipalities with limited budgets.
