Google Drops €13 Billion on Finnish Data Centers
Google has announced its largest investment in Europe to date, pledging $15.1 billion (€13 billion) over two years for data centers and power infrastructure in Finland.
The tech giant will expand its presence in Hamina, building new data centers and infrastructure in Kajaani, Muhos, and Vaala, as well as a 22-year power purchase agreement with Fortum to keep the Loviisa nuclear power plant running.
This investment is part of Google's plan for responsible data center development, which includes investments in onshore wind generation and battery storage.
'This investment underscores Google’s commitment to grow our presence responsibly,' said Alphabet and Google Chief Investment Officer Ruth Porat. 'We're pairing the expansion of our technical infrastructure with new energy capacity, grid enhancements, and energy affordability initiatives.'
