Google Dumps €13 Billion into Finland's Booming Data Center Scene
Google's largest investment in Europe yet is an €13 billion ($15.1 billion) commitment to AI infrastructure in Finland over two years, supporting data centers and energy infrastructure at four locations.
The tech giant will also invest in grid upgrades, renewable energy, and other projects to power its AI infrastructure. This move demonstrates Google's confidence in Finland's leadership in building responsible AI infrastructure, according to a statement from the company.
Finland has become one of Europe's largest data center magnets, with major corporations like Microsoft and TikTok already investing heavily in the country. TikTok announced a $1.1 billion investment in April, while Microsoft acquired nearly 200 hectares of land for potential data center development.
The Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo welcomed Google's decision, stating that it is 'a clear testament to our strengths.' He emphasized that Finland's data economy extends beyond direct investment, spurring innovation, research, and development.
