Google Enters Tracker Market with Pixel Tag
Google has officially entered the Bluetooth tracker market with its Pixel Tag, a $29 accessory designed to help Android users keep tabs on their belongings. The Pixel Tag is Google's first foray into item tracking hardware, and it positions itself as a direct alternative to Apple's AirTag for Android owners.
The device features a compact oval shape measuring 28 x 46.1 x 5.4 mm and weighs just 11.8 grams with the battery installed. It has a metal front with a polycarbonate back, available in a single Fog colorway, and includes a physical button that triggers a sound on your connected smartphone.
The Pixel Tag supports both Ultra-Wideband (UWB) and Bluetooth Channel Sounding for precise location tracking when your item is nearby but out of sight. It uses Google's Find Hub network to anonymously report the tag's location when it moves beyond Bluetooth range, and users get 'Left Behind' alerts when they accidentally separate from an item.
