Google Faces Global Interoperability Mandate as Taboola Buys Rival
The US government's antitrust case against Google has reached a new milestone. A court-appointed technical monitor will oversee compliance after Judge Leonie Brinkema unsealed her 106-page remedies decision, which was previously sealed for two weeks.
The decision requires Google to build interoperability between its ad exchange, AdX, and publisher ad server, DFP, connecting both to Prebid. Additionally, AdX must offer rival publishers the same bidding terms as DFP, and Google must share win-and-loss bid data with publishers.
Google's AdWords platform is also prohibited from bidding directly into DFP or favoring its own tools. The rules apply worldwide, not just in the US.
Meanwhile, Taboola has acquired UK-based Dianomi for up to £27m, a 68% premium over the company's closing share price the day before the deal was announced. CEO Adam Singolda sees this as an opportunity for conversational ad units that can keep users engaged on publisher pages longer.
Foodpanda has launched a plug-in for ChatGPT and Claude, allowing users to discover restaurants and meal options directly inside these AI assistants.
