Google Fined €403M as Irish Regulators Crack Down on Location-Data Processing
Alphabet's parent company, GOOG, has been hit with a 403 million Irish privacy fine over historical location-data processing. This penalty is related to Alphabet's violation of data regulations tied to Web & App Activity, Location History, and Location Accuracy between 2018 and 2020.
The Ireland regulator has given Google six months to bring the affected practices into compliance. During this time, three additional Irish statutory inquiries remain at advanced stages, keeping regulatory pressure alive.
Investors are not too concerned about the penalty itself but rather whether tighter rules will reduce Google's ability to use data signals for personalization and advertising performance. Search remains the key driver of Alphabet's economics, with a 17% growth in revenue last quarter.
