Google Fixes Crashing Bugs in Android 17 QPR2 Beta 6 Update

Google has released Android 17 QPR2 Beta 6 to its Pixel beta testers, less than a week after releasing Beta 5. This unexpected update focuses on polishing performance and squashing severe system crashes, camera reboots, and visual bugs reported by community members across Reddit and the official Android Beta Feedback app.

The patch notes for Beta 6 target six specific issues that were affecting daily usability. Google fixed letterboxed content leaking through the status bar during app transitions, blank screensavers while charging, and a bug that stopped swipe gestures from dismissing locked apps in the Recents menu. Most importantly, the build eliminates a major issue causing phones to crash or reboot while scrolling through content.

The update also fixes hardware-specific bugs, including unexpected reboots hitting the Pixel 9 Pro Fold when third-party apps opened the camera viewfinder. Google patched a system kernel crash triggered by apps requesting simultaneous camera and microphone access during biometric identity checks.
