Google Funds Fort Wayne Water Reuse Project with $1.1 Million
Fort Wayne City Utilities is set to receive $1.1 million in funding from Google as part of its commitment to responsibly manage water resources at its data centers. The money will be used to improve water reuse and operations at the Three Rivers Filtration Plant, reducing withdrawals from the St. Joseph River by approximately 180 million gallons a year.
The project aims to enhance the handling of lime residuals from the drinking water softening process before they are sent to the City's Biosolids Facility. This improvement will allow more water to be reused, making it a crucial step in conserving local water sources.
This announcement comes as Google is distributing $10 million across Indiana to support water filtration plants. The funding is part of the tech giant's efforts to address its environmental impact in the communities where it operates data centers.
