Google Funds Home Upgrades Amid Data Center Build
Google has invested $1.5 million in home weatherization efforts in Missouri as part of its plan to build a massive data center in Montgomery County.
The company is working with the Northeast Community Action Corporation (NECAC) to insulate homes, upgrade windows, and replace inefficient heating and cooling systems, which can reduce utility bills by up to 50%.
Google has committed $20 million overall to support 'energy affordability, efficiency, and community resilience' in Missouri.
Katie Ottenweller, who works on energy market development for Google, said the company aims to announce how it will allocate the remaining funding across Missouri later this year.
The project comes as the Missouri Public Service Commission studies the effectiveness of electricity bill assistance programs in the state and as utilities plan new power plants to meet surging demand from AI data centers.
