Google Gives Users More Control Over Their News Feed
Google has introduced new personalization features across its Search, Discover, and Google News platforms. The company says that users will have more control over their experience, while publishers can build stronger connections with readers.
The Preferred Sources button is a new interactive feature that allows users to add trusted sources to their list of preferred sites. When clicked, the button adds the site to the user's Preferred Sources list and directs them back to where they left off on the publisher's page.
According to Google, more than 600,000 unique sources have already been selected as preferred by users. Publishers can embed the new button code in their pages using Google Search Central documentation.
The company is also introducing a new way for users to customize their Discover feed. In the coming days, users will be able to tap on any three-dot menu in their feed to tell Google exactly what topics or links they want to see more (or less) of.
In addition, Google is making it easier for users to curate their daily audio briefings in the Google News app on Android. Users can now choose specific topics and source attribution, with clear links out to full articles.
