Google Home Update Enhances Voice Recognition and App Reliability
Google has rolled out a significant update for its Gemini for Home assistant, enhancing its voice recognition capabilities and overall responsiveness. The latest improvements focus on making the assistant better at understanding voice commands in noisy environments, such as busy kitchens or living rooms where background noise like music or conversations might interfere.
The update also reduces latency for routine requests, such as setting alarms and timers, ensuring faster and more reliable responses. For multilingual households, Gemini for Home now better understands commands spoken in three different languages. Additionally, Google has improved how the assistant handles custom voice commands within Routines, making voice-controlled routines more consistent across multiple speakers and displays.
Beyond Gemini, the Google Home app has received several useful fixes. Setting smart lights to 0% brightness will now turn them off completely, and cameras and doorbells are easier to identify with filled icons and accented tile colors. Matter switches now correctly report their status, including when devices are offline. Setup reliability for new Nest devices has also been improved, and camera playback on Android has been enhanced with smoother buffering and fixes for video history and timeline scrubbing issues.
iOS users will benefit from fixes that prevent the camera player from getting stuck during playback, and device names are now clearer when creating Automations. While not the most flashy update, these changes aim to make the Google Home experience more seamless and less frustrating for daily use.
